Unexpected Landscapes

I am inspired by nature.

This current series celebrates spontaneity and being in the moment with my camera.  It is study of nature - the mages in this series are my endeavor to capture beauty found in the natural world around me – isolating them into form, pattern and abstraction.

My work revolves around the idea of identity – with the objective to capture an aspect or an isolated moment of my subjects – whether the subject matter is human or plant life.  This body of work is also a form of meditation for me as I attempt to look at world with introspection and calmness – with a focus on creating contemplative images.  This is ever more important now as we are living during the time of a pandemic, political unrest and chaos.

I am enthralled by the rudimentary Holga plastic film camera I use, which has minimal controls for exposure.  I am intrigued by the element of chance in the images I capture when I am exploring my world, with the outcome often unexpected.  I am fascinated by the randomness of the results and the unforeseen quality that I am able to capture.  This low-tech analog photographic experience has captivated me for almost a decade.
